Our geography is vast, stretching as far as Cumbria in the north to Bridlington on the East coast. The reason for this is that our founder, Lilian Biggs who taught Iyengar Yoga in Bradford from the mid-seventies built up a strong presence of Iyengar Yoga practitioners including the many teachers that she trained across the region.
At the time Lilian Biggs was the most senior Iyengar Yoga teacher in the region and had a huge class base of students. People travelled from far and wide to come to Lilian’s classes and so BDIYI members spread over a huge area of Yorkshire and Lancashire.
Our large region is the legacy of Lilian Bigg’s success in developing a strong base of students and teachers.
It was Lilian Biggs, who in 1991 asked Mr Iyengar if he would permit a local yoga group to be formed in his name. Mr Iyengar gave his blessing and the the BDIYI was born.
